Mack C. Mitchell, Jr., M.D.

Dr. Mitchell has been a key player in the Foundation for 24 years. A dynamic physician and visionary, he works closely with the Trustees and is largely responsible for the extraordinary scientific talent, expertise and wisdom present on the Advisory Councils.


A graduate of The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Dr. Mitchell joined the Foundation in 1982 as deputy executive officer and member of the Medical Advisory Council. He became vice president in 1985 and assumed the presidency upon the founder's retirement in 1989. An international authority on alcohol and liver metabolism, his scientific research has been published in a wide array of scientific papers, journals and texts. In addition, Dr. Mitchell is directly involved in putting research into the clinical practice of medicine. He is listed in the Best Doctors in America.


Director of Research and Grants Programs
Erin L. Teigen, B.A.

Ms. Teigen, who joined the Foundation in 2009, has experience in implementing university public health programs and in directing the public affairs for non-profit organizations. Previously, Ms. Teigen worked with the Office of Health Education at the College of William and Mary to create health preventions and interventions for the campus community. In addition, she has experience with communications through her work with the Office of Public Affairs at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.


Janet L. Hanratty, C.P.A.

Ms. Hanratty joined the Foundation as a financial officer in 1991. Before that she was a senior accountant with Walpert, Smullian & Blumenthal in Baltimore. Her public accounting experience includes auditing small and mid-size companies, reviewing and implementing industry-specific internal control systems, and preparing corporate and personal income tax returns.
