PROMISE FOR THE FUTURE THROUGH RESEARCH

ABMRF/The Foundation for Alcohol Research

Help improve the quality of people’s lives by supporting research to discover the effects of alcohol on health and behavior and prevention of alcohol-related problems.

Thanks to contributor support, ABMRF/The Foundation for Alcohol Research has been able to fund innovative, high quality research on alcohol and health in Canada and in the United States. Currently, however, available resources enable funding fewer than half of the most promising research projects judged to have the highest scientific merit. Your tax-deductible contribution will provide a promise for the future.  You can help us expand the number of alcohol research projects we can support.

Your Support is Needed

Alcohol consumption affects the lives of many millions of citizens across North America, from those who drink responsibly to those who misuse. One in ten faces a pattern of alcohol abuse. Nearly 40% of families have been touched by alcohol problems in a close relative. Yet, alcohol research remains under funded compared to other illness categories such as cancer, heart disease, aging, or HIV, despite the potential to benefit a comparable number of lives:

  • Alcohol is not ranked in the top 20 federally funded medical research categories.
  • Alcohol research funding is low compared to the estimated impact in cost to individuals.
  • There is less spent on alcohol research per affected population than any other research category.

ABMRF/The Foundation for Alcohol Research supports independent study which is vital to understanding the benefits and detriments of alcohol consumption. You can help us expand the number of alcohol research projects we can support and help improve the quality of people’s lives.
